Bench press today was like the weather shitty. Today was a AMRAP set with my training max so I managed 2 reps with 315 lbs. Not what I was hoping for but I'll take it at this point. After that performance I decided on the fly, to retrofit my bench program. For this day I'm sticking with the 5/3/1 sets at first but then I'm adding a old school classic strength block with a slight twist for bench. For me I pick a weight I can do 5 reps with and then do 6 sets of 3 reps with it and one final set with the sling shot for a AMRAP set. Keeping the rest intervals down to 1 to 1 1/2 mins. I've done this in the past with great success. Every week I will try to increase the weight on the bar 5 or 10 lbs. I also narrowed my grip on the bar so my shoulder and upper back do not complain as much. In his book he has something similar called boring but big 5x3 variation.
Next up was medium width pull ups for all out single reps and 10 seconds of rest between each rep. This time I did 3 sets of 10 reps using this technique.
Finished up with a tricep exercise and than my favorite cardio the air dyne bike!!
Adapt and overcome gym rats!
