It was deadlift day and the program had me opening up the throttle after my deload week. This time around instead of just 1 rep with my training max, I was doing a AMRAP set with my training max which had increased 10 lbs. This would be the heaviest weight I've handled in the deadlift in a very longgg time. I'll admit in the back of my mind I'm always worried about blowing something out like my lower back. Been their many many times in the past, but this is now and I've been training smart and progressing slowly up the ladder. Big lifts require total focus on what you are doing. Not shown in the video but I do deep breaths inhaling thru the mouth and nose prior to walking up to the bar. Saturating myself with as much O2 as possible, in that moment when I walk up and crush that bar in my hands, my brain becomes very violent for that set. Total focus that my body will do this. Any less and the lift will never leave the floor. Mind over matter is essential.
I arrived rather early at the gym just after 8 am so it was empty for the start of my workout. Being the weekend I had lots of time for warm ups. Front and side planks, walking with alternating leg lifts and outward rotation, kettle bell swings, bar weight deadlifts, walking sideways with a band just above my knees.
My heavier sets actually felt better than my lighter sets. The rails just became more greased as I progressed into the workout. For today I decided to use the hook grip for all my working sets and one extra heavier set to further test it and prep my body/mind for the final all out set. For the last set again I used wrist wraps so my grip was not the limiting factor. I ripped 5 reps with 475 on the bar which is another PR for me. This places my 1 rep max well above 500 at this point.
Next was squats and on my second set I literally ripped the ass out of my shorts :). On my first rep I heard them rip and the next rep a little more and so on. Finished the set...and went into the bathroom to check out the damage. Seam was ripped right down the middle all the way. What is a man to do...finish the fucking workout :). So two more sets of squats with my ass hanging out awesome!!
Epic workout gym rats!!
