What is your favorite time of day for working out? For most of us it revolves around how it best fits into your life schedule. Over the years I've done it all 5am starts in the gym, lunch time power thru workouts, after work or after supper. For weekdays training after work I find works the best for me. I do find this can be a double edge sword. Ever have a brain draining day at work and on the drive home you go into a vegetative state of mind. Now without gulping down some stimulant laden drink get yourself ramped up for a workout. Bet many of you have been in that boat. Essentially it becomes mind over matter and surprisingly sometimes these workouts can turn out to be some of your best.
My squat workout yesterday fell into this type of workout. A grinder at first but as I blasted thru the warm up sets I could feel myself rounding the corner for the straight away and pedal to the metal. The week is all heavier sets of 3 reps for my primary lifts and the squats went awesome. Increased the weight slightly from what was programmed 315 instead of 310 just easier to load the bar. Again I made a point of 1 minute of rest. Meaning for legs by the 1 minute mark I was getting back under the bar, getting ready to crank off another set and finishing it by the 2 minute mark. These sets started off at RPE 7 and by the final set I was sitting at RPE 9. Front squats went well and my strength for these was better then last week, which meant more weight on the bar for the same amount of reps bonus. Last up on the menu was paused sumo deadlifts. These are going extremely well, the weight is flying off the floor. I crack the bar off the floor and it's mid shin by the time I can pause the weight. Not going to increase the weight as I still feel I'm getting a good training effect from doing these. Why do I say this, my speed of the floor was better than last week case closed.
